How to Save Your Sexless Marriage
“What happens in the bedroom is a reflection of what happens outside the bedroom, and nowhere is this more evident than in the case of sexless marriages.”
Sexless marriages are grossly underreported because of the shame, embarrassment, and discomfort around these topics in general.
If you’re in a sexless marriage, let me first say that I'm truly sorry. It's a very difficult place to be in. And also—you’re not alone. It's a more common experience than we care to admit, and I'm hoping that conversations like this will shed light on this intimacy crisis and help guide people toward solutions.
When I researched sexless relationships in academic publications, I couldn't find any published articles in journals. Just newspaper and magazine articles. So that should tell you sexless marriages are common, but we're still very hesitant to talk about them.
People ask me all the time, what is a sexless marriage? How do I know if I'm in one? In this episode, I’m revealing those answers as well as statistics and questions you can begin to ask yourself to identify possible solutions for you. Let's get into the meat of what causes sexless marriages and relationships.
Here's what we cover:
What causes sexless marriages and relationships
The 3 primary cultural views around sex and marriages
How sexless marriages are impacting children
The impact of SSRI on sexual function for men and women
Solutions for how to save your sexless marriage
I hope in this episode, as I've shed light on the many, many causes that can contribute to your sexless marriage, that you now have a guide and know where to start unraveling and unpacking it so you can bring intimacy and eroticism back into your life!
Answer the questions below, follow through on the action steps in the episode, and report back! Send me a text, DM me on Instagram, email me—whatever. I want to hear from you. Until next time, stay sexy.
Here is the list of questions I promised:
How does your culture feel about sex? Is it reproductive? Is it relational? Is it recreational?
Who's responsible for initiating sex? Is it a man? Is it a woman? Is it both?
How do I respond to this question: Sexual fulfillment is as worthy a goal as any other that I pursue in my life. True or false?
What is the unspoken state of my relationship? Is it healthy, or is it unhealthy?
Is intimacy and pleasure a priority in my daily life? Yes or no? (There's no maybe)
How is my overall spiritual, emotional, and mental health? If I rate myself on a scale of 1 to 5 (healthy to unhealthy), where would I fall on each?
Of course, I encourage you to listen to the episode and not just dive into these questions blindly because you'll need context provided in the conversation.
